The VWR Foundation Approves Grants to Enable Science Education

RADNOR, Pa., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The VWR Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to giving back to the science community, distributed six grants totaling over $44,000 during its Board Meeting earlier this month. Five of the grants were awarded to organizations that are new to the VWR Foundation, and all of them support science education programs.

Among the grant recipients was Primoris Academy Inc, a non-profit private school for academically gifted students. Primoris challenges and inspires young minds through a compelling academic program with a hands-on, experiential approach. The VWR Foundation’s grant will provide funds for safety equipment needed in their science laboratory that will enable students to perform experiments in organic chemistry. This curriculum is extremely important as it has proven to play an integral role in developing future medical scientists.

“Thanks to the VWR Foundation, our students will receive a fume hood, an important piece of laboratory safety equipment,” shared Dr. Oxana Litvine, Chemistry and Biology Teacher at Primoris Academy. “Now our students can conduct organic chemistry experiments, which are required by the AP Chemistry curriculum, and carry out a wider variety of independent projects, which were previously impossible.”

The VWR Foundation also awarded the following organizations with Founders Grants this month:

  • Cuyahoga Community College Foundation in Cleveland, OH
  • Joan Austin Elementary School in Newberg, OR
  • Savenature Org in San Francisco, CA
  • United States Naval Academy Foundation Inc in Annapolis, MD
  • University of North Carolina at Wilmington in Wilmington, NC
