Spectris Appoints New Chairman

17 May 2017 – Spectris plc (‘Spectris’) (LSE: SXS), the productivity-enhancing instrumentation and controls company, today announces that Mark Williamson has been appointed to the Board as Non-executive Chairman with effect from the conclusion of the Spectris Annual General Meeting (‘AGM’) to be held on 26 May 2017.

As previously announced, Dr. John Hughes, Chairman, had advised his intention to retire from the Board as soon as a successor had been identified and therefore steps down from the Board with effect from the conclusion of the AGM. Mark is currently chairman of Imperial Brands plc and senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee of National Grid plc. He was formerly senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee of Alent plc. Until 2012, Mark was chief financial officer of International Power plc and prior to that held senior financial positions at Simon Group plc. He is a qualified accountant.

Announcing the appointment, Russell King, Senior Independent Director of Spectris, said:

“I am delighted that Mark has agreed to join our Board as Chairman. His considerable business and financial expertise combined with his broad governance experience will further strengthen the Spectris Board.

“I should also like to take this opportunity to express the Board’s deep appreciation for the notable contribution made by John Hughes over the course of his 10 years’ service to Spectris, a period during which the Group has made significant strategic and financial progress.”

There are no further details to be disclosed in respect of Listing Rule 9.6.13.
