New Class II Biological Safety Cabinets Deliver Superior Performance for Product, Personnel and Environmental Protection

Waltham, MA – (May 7, 2019) Scientists working across biopharmaceutical, bioproduction and applied research applications can now benefit from two technologically advanced Class II biological safety cabinets (BSCs), which have been developed to optimize contamination prevention, information protection and management, and user convenience.

Leveraging Thermo Fisher’s leading BSC technology, the Thermo Scientific Herasafe and Maxisafe 2030i systems offer a “smart” self-monitoring safety capability to automatically maintain appropriate air flow and monitor critical conditions in real-time for continuous, uncompromised protection of the most valuable cell research. The systems have been designed to connect to the secure Thermo Scientific Cloud for simplified, remote sharing and monitoring of key operational and performance data wherever a Wi-Fi connection is available. This allows for improved process control, reporting and asset management while eliminating the human error potential associated with paper-based procedures.

The Herasafe and Maxisafe 2030i BSCs have been equipped with an advanced yet simple to operate intuitive graphic touchscreen interface, which displays the unit status and performance data at all times, and provides easy-to-read alerts and messages. As a result, users can feel confident the cabinets are functioning properly to protect their samples and working environment, driving process improvements and reproducibility of results. Furthermore, an electronic sash with a fully hinged opening enables easy access for supplies and equipment, and simplifies cleaning and disinfection. The units also comply with the NSF/ANSI 49 Standards and EN 12469 Standard for Class II BSCs.

“For more than five decades, Thermo Fisher Scientific has been leading the clean air technologies market, providing powerful application-based solutions to suit the most demanding cell culture requirements, while enabling compliance with the most stringent global safety standards,” said Martin Cole, global product manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Building on this expertise, the new Herasafe and Maxisafe 2030i BSCs have been designed to set new standards for product, personnel and environmental protection.”

In addition to all of these features, the Maxisafe 2030i BSC offers a unique triple filter design for substantially improved filtration efficiency compared to conventional Class II BSCs, while its bridged primary filter aperture system enhances rigidity and security. The filters are easy and safe to change under negative pressure, and a unique sealing system simplifies installation and testing. The unit has been independently tested and certified to the DIN 12980 standard for BSCs handling cytotoxic substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction compounds). Ensuring ISO Class 5 air quality, the Maxisafe 2030i BSC is ideal for cleanroom and good manufacturing practice installations.
