Nalgene Outdoor and REVERB Announce Fourth Year of #RockNRefill Campaign To Reduce Plastic Waste at Summer’s Most Popular Live Music Events

As the live outdoor music season kicks off this month, an ongoing partnership between Nalgene Outdoor Products, maker of reusable water bottles, and REVERB, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization leading the environmental movement within the music industry, will encourage fans to enjoy a great music show while taking positive action for the environment. Various music events throughout the country will offer concertgoers opportunities to reduce plastic waste, reuse water bottles and raise funds for charitable organizations.

2017 marks the fourth consecutive year that Nalgene Outdoor has partnered with REVERB to provide engaging ways to reduce plastic waste and increase water hydration at live music events. Once again, the duo are challenging concertgoers to #RockNRefill with a donation in exchange for a custom Made-in-USA Nalgene bottle; and then, using social media, to share the many ways they make eco-conscious choices to refill, reduce and reuse at music events and in everyday life. Since its kickoff in 2013, the partnership, including #RockNRefill, has reached millions of music fans with tangible results:

  • Raised more than $1,100,000 for over 50 unique environmental and social non-profit causes;
  • Diverted an estimated 1,816,610 single-use plastic bottles from landfills; and
  • Integrated more than 137,000 Nalgene reusable water bottles into everyday use among concertgoers.

“Our partnership with Nalgene Outdoor is a natural fit with our mission to support the environment through music,” said Adam Gardner of the band GUSTER and co-founder of REVERB. “The environmental savings created by #RocknRefill are incredible, and we’re excited to expand the reach of this program in 2017.”

The Nalgene Made-in-USA bottles will be used by REVERB to support nonprofit fan engagement platforms championed by select musical artist partners. Fans will be able to connect with and support charitable causes by donating money in exchange for a custom Nalgene bottle at REVERB’s Eco-Village at shows and festivals across the country. Thanks to REVERB’s free water stations, fans will be able to “Refill Not Landfill” with Nalgene Outdoor bottles and eliminate the need for single-use water bottles.

“We make it our mission to help the end-user minimize their overall impact on the environment,” said Eric Hansen, product director, Nalgene Outdoor Products. “Our #RockNRefill partnership with REVERB has been incredibly successful in reducing waste at venues across the country. Nalgene Outdoor couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this green movement.”

Tours, Festivals, and Venue Partners

A series of live national music tours and regional festivals and venues will encourage the #RockNRefill social marketing program and host Eco-Village stations where concertgoers can buy Nalgene bottles, refill them and learn more about #RockNRefill. Below is a sample list of artists and venues participating in this year’s program. For additional updates, please visit www.nalgene.com/reverb.

  • Dave Matthews, as an individual artist and as part of his Band, has worked with REVERB for over a decade to promote sustainable practices on tours and further connect fans with the environment.
  • Headliners such as John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and Zac Brown Band are just a few of the shows that will feature an Eco-Village and #RockNRefill program.
  • Popular annual festivals such as Cali Roots and the Forecastle Music Festival are in their second year of #RockNRefill. A new festival, the Cayuga Sound Festival, will celebrate local upstate New York musicians and the fact that Nalgene bottles are made nearby.
  • Major music venues such as the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine, will feature water refill stations and #RockNRefill bottles.
