VWR Sales Team Helps Raise $12,000 for Duke Children's

RADNOR, Pa., Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — VWR (NASDAQ: VWR), the leading global independent provider of product and service solutions to laboratory and production customers, recently hosted its Faces of Research event for the second year bringing researchers from Duke University together with patients in the hospital for an interactive fundraiser.

VWR presented a $12,000 check to Duke Children's. The event honored the memory of Howell Brown III. (L to R): Jonathan Yoppi, VP of Segment Solutions for E&MR at VWR; Dr. Corinne Linardic, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Duke Children's; Sue Brown, mother of Howell Brown III; Kristi Oristian, Pediatric Cancer Researcher at Duke Children's; Stacey Pope, Manager of Major Accounts for E&MR/Healthcare at VWR; Lynn Moore, Director of Region Sales for E&MR/Healthcare at VWR.

Stacey Pope, VWR’s Manager of Major Accounts for Education & Medical Research (E&MR)/Healthcare in the Southeast U.S., gathered a group of employees from VWR’s Sales team to organize and successfully promote the fundraiser for Duke Children’s Hospital, which was held on their campus in Durham, NC, on September 29th.

Stacey, who is personally involved with the hospital, developed the event last year and commented, “I am thrilled we were able to host another successful event this year for Duke Children’s. This event not only raises funds for the hospital, but also provides the patients a moment to forget their illness and enjoy being a child.”

The 2017 Faces of Research event brought over 200 Duke researchers together with VWR employees and suppliers. During the event, the group formed small teams to run, climb and jump through a challenging obstacle course.  Each team selected and participated in honor of a specific patient at Duke Children’s. Information packets were created for each team which included a personal story about the child they were competing on behalf of. The winning team earned a trophy, bragging rights and the opportunity to hand out medals to each child involved in the event.

Kristi Oristian, Pediatric Cancer Researcher for Duke Children’s commented, “This event is a great opportunity for researchers to meet the individuals our research directly impacts. It turns science into a human experience.”

Jonathan Yoppi, VWR’s Vice President of Segment Solutions for E&MR, and Stacey proudly presented a $12,000 check to Duke Children’s at the close of the event. The VWR Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to giving back to the science community, will be donating an additional $1,700 on behalf of the 17 VWR employees who participated in the event.
