Environmental Excellence Awards for GE Analytical Instruments in 2013

July 19, 2013 – Boulder, CO – GE Analytical Instruments, a division of GE Water & Process Technologies, received the Excellence in Waste Diversion award from Western Disposal for their 2012 Zero Waste efforts. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., environmental advocate for 30 years, was the keynote speaker at the June 12 Boulder Earth Conference where the awards were given out. Through recycling, composting, and reuse of materials including packaging and vials, GE’s Boulder site diverted over 80% of their waste from the “trash stream.” The company’s program began in 2008 and is run by a volunteer team.

In addition, earlier this year, General Electric (GE) performed an extensive audit of the Sievers Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer manufacturing site on areas such as chemical usage and disposal, emergency plans, and sustainable practices like Zero Waste. They awarded the facility an Environmental Excellence certificate. The site already earned two other certificates of excellence— OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and GE HealthAhead. Western Disposal and GE both use the Boulder site an example for other companies that may want to start their own Zero Waste program.
